It was a throwback then. Now it’s a throwback throwback. Essentially, this is a fine vintage smoke. Some of the tobacco has been aging for 20 years!
Don’t let the name and scorpion branding scare you off. It’s just dark as hell. The earthy flavors you get with the 2013 Camacho LE13 Blackout are quite smooth after all that aging.
The blend was originally made at a time when the company was reevaluating everything, and this was one of the innovations they crafted at their very busy blending table. It has a ton going on if you read the description, but we find that the smoke is nothing like what you would think after reading it. It isn’t super complex or powerful. It’s a wonderfully smooth and enjoyable stogie that plays it close to the vest, with a very basic flavor profile. You’ll find pepper and light woodiness – almost aromatic – along with baking spices in the later rounds. This is normal for a well-aged cigar like this.
Subtlety is the main thing that takes over a stogie as the years roll by, although some interesting notes sometimes emerge.
For those keeping score, there’s a lot of tobacco in here. There are Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Brazilian fillers from 2003, 2008, and 2009. There’s a Nicaraguan binder from 2009. And the leaf you’ll see first is that Honduran midnight Maduro wrapper from 2006. This one was grown for sweetness and oil and was press fermented. This means that weight was applied to the tobacco stacks (pilones) during rounds of fermentation. As Camacho tells it, the tobacco was “Worked hard, but carefully”.
After rolling, it took two years of aging for things to come together.
And then we added ten more. Enjoy!
Wrapper grown in 2006, Binder from 2009, Fillers from 2003, 2008, 2009. The rolled cigars were then aged together for another 2-years, when the normal marrying process is normally just a few months.
This 2013 Camacho LE13 Blackout Churchill cigar is made in Honduras. Outside, you'll find a Honduran Maduro wrapper. Inside, the binder is Nicaraguan, and the filler is Honduran, Nicaraguan & Brazilian. This is a Churchill cigar with a length of 7.00 and a ring gauge of 48.
